Ensuring Sustainable Livelihood Security of Scheduled Tribe Rice Farmers at Korangatty Village in Adimali Block of Idukki District

KVK Idukki implemented Tribal Sub Plan project funded by ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, entitled: “Ensuring Sustainable Livelihood Security of Scheduled Tribe Rice Farmers at Korangatty Village in Adimali Block of Idukki District”. Tribal Sub Plan Scheme “Ensuring Sustainable Livelihood Security of Scheduled Tribe Rice Farmers in Adimali Block of Idukki District” jointly implemented by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Idukki and Adimali Gram Panchayat with the funding of ICAR- Indian Rice Research Centre, Hyderabad was conducted at Adimali – Korangatti Panchayat Hall. Mr. C D Shaji, Ward Member, 8th Ward, presided over the programme. Dr. R Marimuthu, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Idukki, welcomed the delegates and Scheduled Tribe farmers who participated in the function. The program was inaugurated by P Muthuraman, (Principal Scientist and Head, Training and Transfer of Technology Division, ICAR- Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad. Dr. P Jayakumar, (Principal Scientist, Training and Transfer of Technology Division, ICAR- Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad) delivered the keynote address. Dr. Brajendra, (Principal Scientist, Soil Science Division), ICAR- Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, explained the soil sampling techniques and demonstrated the soil test using IIRR developed mini soil kit. Smt. Ashly George, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Smt Siji, Agriculture Officer, Adimali, Shri. Shitanshu Kumar, Chief Administrative Officer, ICAR- Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, Mrs. Sudha Nair, Assistant Administrative Officer, ICAR- Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad felicitated the programme. After the inaugural session, technical products on management in paddy cultivation namely Lime Pseudomonas, Azospirillum, Azolla, Phosphobacteria, Leaf Color Chart, KAU Sampoorna Micro-Nutrient Fertilizer, Daincha Seeds, Tricho Card and Knapsack Sprayers were distributed to the ST farmers. Mr. Sudhakar Soundarajan, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection) and Mrs. Manju Jincy Varghese, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Idukki conducted the classes on Integrated Fertilizers and Pest Control Methods in Rice Cultivation. The scheme was implemented for 100 selected Scheduled Caste paddy farmers.
