International Millets Conference-2023 (Live telecast) & One-day Training Programme on Millets for opportunity in Natural farming

One-day training program theme on "Millets for opportunity in Natural farming" was organized at KVK, Idukki on 18th March 2023 with 104 participants on the eve of inauguration of International Millets Conference by Hon'ble PM on 18th March 2023 at NASC Complex, Pusa New Delhi. All the participants attended the inauguration function virtually. In this occasion, one-day training programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. Marimuthu, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Idukki. Enhancing millet cultivation with special focus in natural farming is a need of the hour. Millets are a whole grain that's packed with protein, antioxidants, and nutrients. They have numerous health benefits, such as helping lower your blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Plus, they're gluten-free, making them an excellent choice for people who have celiac disease or follow a gluten-free diet. A session on millet as an opportunity in natural farming was handled by Mr. Sudhakar Soundarajan, SMS (Plant Protection), ICAR-KVK, Idukki. He stressed on the importance of different natural farming components like Jeevamritham, Neemasthram, Agni asthram and alike in the farming system. Mr. Shaji George, Project leader of Kerala State Agriculture Department handled a session in online mode emphasis on millet for environment. He pointed that Millet crops have a good ability to sequester carbon and helps climate adaptation, considering the water needs and methane emission of rice fields.
