World Soil Day (2022)

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrated World Soil Day on 05.12.2022 at the Seminar Hall of KVK, Idukki. The theme for World Soil Day 2022 was “Soils: where food begins”. As soil is the ultimate natural supplier of the food we eat, we cannot survive without it. The goals include encouraging people and communities to improve soil health and raising soil awareness among all to ensure healthy ecosystems and human well-being. The theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy ecosystem by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness and encouraging societies to improve soil health. In the celebration different fertilizers and variety products were displayed as exhibits by SPIC. The inaugural programme was started with the welcome speech of Dr. S Jayababu SMS (Animal Science), ICAR-KVK, BSS, Idukki. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Shanty Baby, Adimaly block Vice president. She stressed day the importance of healthy, sustainable soil management and keeping it that way. The SPIC, Regional Manager Mr. Ramesh delivered special address for the programme. He pointed that like humans and animals, soils need a balanced and varied supply of nutrients in appropriate amounts to remain healthy. He also focused the means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. Mr. Sudhakar Soundarajan, SMS (Plant Protection) ICAR-KVK(BSS), Idukki felicitated the session. The inaugural session was followed with a technical session conducted by Mr. Sudhakar Soundarajan, SMS (Plant Protection), ICAR-KVK(BSS), Idukki and Ms. Ashiba A., SMS (Agronomy). The topics on soil health management, balanced use of fertilizers to ensure soil productivity, reclamation of soil acidity and integrated nutrient management were covered during the sessions. SPIC sponsored the free soil testing to the participant farmers.
