Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation Campaign

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (BSS), Idukki organized National campaign on Poshan Abhiyan and Tree Plantation at KVK campus on 17th September 2022 under the Chairmanship of Ms. Reena Chacko, Chairperson, (Bapooji Sevak Samaj). Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month), which is observed every year throughout the month of September. Dr. R. Marimuthu, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Idukki welcomed the dignitaries and farmers present. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Sathi M. S., Rajakkad Panchayat President. In her inaugural address, she said that nutrient-rich plants are a key to combating the issue of malnutrition in the country. After the inauguration, Ms. Sathi M. S., Rajakkad Panchayat President distributed seed packets to farmers and planted a Butter fruit sapling in KVK instructional farm. Mr. K. P. Sudheesh, Standing Committee Chairman, Rajakkad Panchayat delivered special address. The programme was felicitated by Mr. C. R. Raju (Ward member, Rajakkad Panchayat) and Mr. Rajesh, IFFCO representative. Ms. Ashiba A. (Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), ICAR-KVK, Idukki delivered vote of thanks and stressed the ancient knowledge of Ayurveda also prescribes nutrient-rich plants or a nutritious diet. The session was followed by seminar on Nutrigarden and Poshan Abhiyan by Dr. R Marimuthu, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Idukki and Ms. Manju Jincy Varghese, SMS (Soil Science), KVK Idukki. Dr. R Marimuthu stressed the promotion of safe and healthy eating habits among farmers, provisions of nutritious food that can address micro & macro nutrient deficiencies and hidden hunger in children, better use of vacant land lying idle at the schools and AWCs (Aangan Waadi Centres), ensuring an inexpensive, regular and handy supply of fresh vegetables, which are basic to nutrition, brings diversification in the menu of mid-day meals at government schools and AWCs, turning children into catalysts who promote awareness and behavioural changes in society. as A total of 63 farmers and 3 dignitaries attended the programme.
