Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Campaign (June-2022) & Yoga Day Celebration

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Idukki organized an Awareness Campaign on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and celebration of International Yoga day” on 21.06.2022. The main objective of this programme was to impart knowledge on balance use of fertilisers to the stakeholders, especially the farmers. The programme was presided over by Smt. Reena Chacko, Chairperson, Bapooji Sevak Samaj. She highlighted the country’s progress from the traditional fertilizer application to integrated nutrient management and achievement of self-sufficiency in food production. Nedumkandam Block Panchayat Member, Sri. Ajesh, Vice-President, Rajakumary Grama Panchayat formally inaugurated the programme. Smt. Asha Santhosh, Arogya Standing Committee Chairperson delivered the special address and apprised the farmers about the importance of maintaining the soil health and the ways in which healthy soils support plant growth and enhance the crop yield. She also deliberated the importance of Yoga tin ensuring a healthy soul and body. Sri. T. J. Siju, Nedumkandam Block Panchayat Member, Sri. N. M. Sreekumar, Ward member, Chinnakanal Grama panchayat, Sri S. R. Raju, Ward member, Rajakkad Grama panchayat, Sri. Rajesh, IFFCO Representative and Sri. Anu, IPL Representative felicitated the programme. Then, the expert of the programme Ms. Manju Jincy Varghese, Subject Matter Specialist (Soil Science) spoke on wide range of the subjects covering all the essential aspects of ‘Balanced Use of Fertilisers’. She stressed on avoiding indiscriminate use of fertilizers and optimum use of Phosphorus and Potassium fertilizers, as misuse of the same leads to higher input cost followed by import burden and also leads to soil pollution. She pointed on the role and importance of micronutrients and 4R’s viz., Right source, right time, right place, right quantity of fertilisers need to be used to ensure healthy soil, environment and plant. A total of 156 farmers and 9 officials attended the training programme. International Yoga day celebrated at ICAR-KVK, Idukki on 21/06/2022. The technical session on importance of Yoga was handled by Ms. Preethu K. Paul, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension), KVK-Idukki. Participants practiced yoga during the session. The theme of this year’s Yoga Day celebration is “Yoga for Humanity”.
